There are no known photographs of this badge being worn and, in my opinion, you should be extremely dubious of any allegedly 'original' SS Bergführer badge. Only a small number of Waffen-SS personnel qualified as Bergführer and I believe they all did so at the Heer's school. If these badges did actually exist, they would have done so in very small numbers.

Angolia shows two badges, one maschineembroidered and a handstitched one, but I'm not sure about their authenticity. Klietmann shows also a handstitched piece. This is the same type like the one in Angolias book.
Both write that 40 badges were awarded.

      All the best,
      Andreas

Forty is the figure for all qualified W-SS personnel qualified as Bergführer, not just those who were supposedly awarded the W-SS version of the badge.

It's always bothered me that the W-SS would issue a crappy machine embroidered version of badge which was only going to be issued in tiny numbers anyway. My feeling is that if these badges did exist, they would either have been hand-embroidered bullion, or enamel like the army and police Bergführer badges.
