For what it's worth, my view is that pretty much all of the W-SS foreign volunteer insignia will have seen some use, even if it was very limited. Even the Wallonien 'Cross of Burgundy' was issued to, and worn, by a few individuals and many people doubted whether it was even of wartime manufacture. Same goes for the Indian tiger-head patch, although many Indian and German members of the Legion describe it being issued and worn in October/November 1944.

Did Sergio Corbatti & Marco Nava's book Karstjaeger had any pictures of the Karstdistel flower collar patch? I remember Marco Nava authored several articles on Italian SS for Siegrunen (under the pseudonym of Marco Novarese) and one of the articles on Karstjaeger mentioned that the design of the Karstdistel kragenspiegeln which was worn only for a shortwhile

I do not have a photo, but believe I have seen one. Of course, it was years ago and I do not possess the perfect memory.

I was researching the SS Fries Indien Legion and have a tunic worn collar tab that many said did not exist. It took 40 years of searching before I found a photo of an Indian volunteer, in France, wearing the collar tab and sleeve shield.

I was making the point that a few hundred photos do not make for very strong research.

To this day, I am looking for the viking ship collar tab to be seen in an original photo. I do know that I don't make statements based on a few hundred photos.

            Hello Bob

Is the picture of the Bengal Tiger head collar patch that you found is the same with this one?

This is the same picture that was mentioned in the book For Free India by Martin Bamber and Aad Neevan (2010, Oskam Neevan publishing) and according to the author, it was taken at Austria in 1945

I would think looking at hundreds of photos is a bit of a slight research. It took me 40 years and tens of thousands of photos to find a photo of the Free Indian SS collar tab being worn.

What a great and informative thread! I have never seen this collar tab before. I am sure it would fetch a pretty penny on the market, if there is ever an available one.

Yes here they are. ( Back then I had the permission, if I don't have it anymore I will remove it.)
Would you like to post the period pictures of the concentration camp cap, in the other thread?
