Bevo Sleeve Eagle - To good to be true??

    Hi Guys,

I haven't got much SS stuff but I was considering getting a sleeve eagle. I looked in on the famous Winkler 'sale' under new items. There are some eagles that look like their still on the roll. I have searched the forum to compare them to good examples and I just can't tell. These things are selling for 80 Euro's (should be 200) - to good to be true?? I can't post pictures from the site but I was wondering what other members thought, are they good or bad?

    Cheers

    Hi James
It is the tropical sleeve eagle, they are rather common and are from time to time for sale on the e-stand for about 100$. So I guess the 80€ winkler wants for it seems to be the marked value and has been for a while now.

The eagles from the roll looks like original ones to me judging from the picture.

The white type bevo eagle are more rare and more sought after so the price for this type will be quit a bit higher. The white type was used on the green SS uniform. The tropical was used....yes you guessed it lol on the tropical and has maybe also been used on the M44 dot camo tunic? I have seen this type of camo tunic with these type eagle but if they were applied wartime or postwar I do not know.

    All the best

I am among those who believe that the claim that tropical insignia were also intended for use on camo uniforms to be a myth created by dealers, attempting to increase the appeal (and value) of the tropical insignia they wish to sell. You often see dealers listing tan BeVo insignia as "tropical/camo" and this description has been carried into some lesser reference books, but I see no evidence to support the claim that the use of tropical insignia on camo uniforms was ever official, or even widely seen. There may have been odd wartime substitutions due to shortages, but these were the exception, not the rule.

        Hi Guys,

Thanks for the response and the information. So do you have any of this type eagle in you collection(s)?

Would it be worth getting one of these from Winkler, the price seems to be fare then and they look original. As I said I only want to get a few bits of SS insignia to start with I, have a Bevo tab already. I guess I just don't want to make a mistake with the hard earned cash.

Do you have any pictures you could post of this type of eagle?

        Thanks for your assistance.

If you do a search on this forum using the words "BeVo," "sleeve eagle," and "tropical," you will find more photos than you probably care to see.

It is all a matter of personal taste, but I have no interest in unissued items which spent the war in a warehouse. If it were my decision to make, I would save that hard-earned cash for a uniform-removed eagle, which is a true piece of history.

I think it is up to your taste, I do not have any tropical in my collection, BUT I like it and is IMO a bit underrated. I have often thought of buying a tropical style SS tunic but being on a budget something else I would rather have has turned up.

Anyhow I think the tropical could be a good start also as a reference for other Bevo type eagles.

            All the best

Thats very true! Good examples to own and to handle to get a feel and eye for the real stuff. And its affordable SS insignias, though limited to represent the tropical uniforms. Still the real deal and a great reference.
