I think the front might be repainted because the paint is sitting in the dings and it hasn't worn thin on the high spots at all. Compare it to the back.

I increased the red level in the color balance of this photo and it looks like the copper is visible in the dinged areas:

So , orig. silver finish and no repaint,as i understand these pics?

I think the finish is OK.

I asked the seller and he answered me, that thevisor with insignia was found in germany in an old chicken farm(house) under the roof. The roof was really bad, water ran into the house and on the visor over all the years. When it was found it was really damaged by the water and the moths. Just the eagle and the tk were okay.

This has the earmarks I would expect from an original CupAl 499/41 skull, of the round crimp variety.

I wish the finder had kept the damaged hat and left it alone. I always wonder why anything that would lead to the authenticity of an item would be disguarded.
