Lars, thank you for your comments. Glad to hear that the plate is good Would the designation SS - Reich refer to the Division Das Reich or something else? Cheers, Torsten.

            Hi Torsten
No it has nothing to do with the Das Reich division. I think it was used in canteens where the units were stationed etc.

Here is a LW marked mug. It was used at the airfield near the town Aalborg in Denmark and also a bowel from the DAF this I found last week

            All the best
            Lars

Hi Lars, your DAF plate was made by the same manufacturer is my SS plate ... I guess that Reich in my case here might then refer to a home based unit, rather than one based in the occupied territories?? Cannot explain it any other way if it was to be a geographical place rather than a unit designation? Cheers, Torsten.

I think the designation has to do with the organizational structure of the SS at the time the plate was made. By 1940 the SS had two distinct branches, the Allgemeine-SS and the Waffen-SS. I have always believed that SS-Reich tableware was for A-SS use. I believe I read this somewhere at some time but I am sure some more research on the SS organization would shed some more light on this marking.

Hi Chris, sounds like another strong possibility ... Cheers, Torsten.
