Pilots attached to LSAH
I've seen this before. I believe the explanation is that LSAH and possibly other (elite) units were assigned Fischler Storch aircraft flown of course by Luftwaffe pilots, who were temporarily attached to such ground units for reconnaissance and/or artillery spotting missions.
Such pilots (Beobachtungsflieger) were essentialy detached from the Luftwaffe, as they took their orders directly from these ground units and therefor were allowed their adopted unit's cuff titles, which I imagine were only worn for the duration of their assignment and attachment to that unit...
This is a theory I have and could very well be an unofficial practice with no regulations on entitlement of such cuff titles as these pilots (and their equipment) were on loan...as it would be a temporary assignment for a particular mission!
I believe LSAH and Prinz Eugen both had this arrangement with the Luftwaffe. Prinz Eugen even had the Odal rune emblem painted on the nose cowling of their Fischler Storch aircraft. I can imagine with partisan warfare especially, that such aircraft came in handy! NickLast edited by NickG; 08-03-2007, 01:27 PM.
