    SS rank tabs for review

    Hi guys-

Here are two SS rank tabs I’d like to get some opinions on. First up is a tunic-removed SS-Unterscharführer rank tab:

Second is a blank rank tab:

          and the last one:

Both look good to me, but I would appreciate your comments and opinions.
          Thanks in advance,

The second one I like for sure

The first one has a bit too long fold overs and has more like late war cloth with visible weave pattern and an earlier style rank pip. All these details make me sceptic.

Felix, which pips are considered late war - the small ones?

Made from Zink is more common for late war I guess.

                  Interesting...

The pip doesn't bother me, but I hadn't given much thought to the large folds on the back (although I did notice it.) The material is heavily worn, with very little nap left on the front but more on the back which is what I would expect.

What do you guys think of the buckram on this one?

                  Thanks for your observations, Felix.

Anyone else care to comment on the Unterscharführer tab?

                    Thanks in advance,

I agree with Rob that the large folds give me pause. However, many collar tabs were made outside the RZM channels and that can account for variances in material and construction. It is one of the insignia that you either feel comfortable owning or not, depending on the circumstances of acquisition.

Duct tape can't fix stupid, but it can muffle the sound.

As always, thanks for your input, Bob. I didn't have much concern about the material - the texture, feel, wear and age all look correct, and as is the case with anything hand made I do accept varying degrees of detail and construction- but the buckram does have me a little curious the more I look at it.
