        Hi Judas, yes the board and tabs are hand sewn, the twisted aluminium piping came to me via a friend, it is 2mm in diameter and was left over from another restore. I recently looked for black/silver twisted piping cord and found some offered by www.epicmilitaria.com and http://www.nicholasmorigi.com/ there may be other sources

          Very nice job. I concur that a careful recreation is far better than the hatchet jobs often encountered, and that it is indeed expensive - exotic cufftitles are dear, and I would agree that Pete Whamond at the Collectors Guild has a discerning eye. In reply to Robin, my own sense of the value of a stripped officer-quality black uniformn in nice condition, with original buttons and board but without insignia, is around $5K US. This is the sort of uniform I would want for a top-notch restoration.
