    Waffen Ss Sturmgeschutze Jacket

Hello friends and collectors, I'd like to see an authentic and textbook example of a late war "Stug" wrapper made from Italian material (gabardine) and lined in the standard grey herringbone twill you so often see used on late war tunics.
Thanks in advance for any help and information.

      Bryon,

I'll EMail you a picture of a StuG wrap (Army) made fm Ital. Gabardine. It is a production piece.

I have just one picture (exterior) on hand but I'll take a couple of interiors if you wish this evening.

      Cheers, John

I was shown one of these made of bluish gray rough wool not gabardine, at the Pamona show a few years back by an advanced California collector who wanted my opinion despite my lack of experience with them. He had bought it from a very well regarded local source.
Despite who it came from, I was of the opinion that it was brand new and looked like it had been made yesterday. That one had original insignias sewn on it and had never been used in any form of combat unless it was for two seconds and as an observer at 5,000 ft from any action. It could be my taste, but I didnt care for it and felt it was a thrown together post war from the wartime materials.

I was told in the mid-1990s that somebody was making assault gun jackets using Italian gaberdine material and to avoid all Waffen-SS assault gun jackets made with this material because of it. So it would be interesting to see an original one if they existed.

                        Glenn,

Is that a new SP wrap? Nice and very rare. I like the Italian material.

                          Wrap

This one shows light though obvious service use.

It was made w/ soutache piping around the tabs. The piping around the tabs was probably red and it was removed by its (non-artillery branched) owner.

Underside of collar shows some neat use of scrap materials.

The L. sleeve has a "shadow" from a removed Battle Shield. (Size indicates that it was most probably a Cholmschild)

Nice sizing and depot stamp (dated '44) inside

                          Real and rare.

                            wrap

..Anyhow, I guess that is what you wanted to see...(an orig. wrap made of the Italian Gabardine material that was so widely used in 1944)

I do not know of another orig. wrap (Army or WSS) made of this stuff, but some must be out there. This one is a righteous wartime piece.

I've seen many tunics WSS and Army officer as well as Army EM tunics made from it ...lots of WSS caps (overseas and visored field caps as well as visor caps). I think there were overcoats made with it too.

The Italian material seems to have been the last infusion of good quality material available to the Ger war industry. After this stuff (and the scratchy blue gray Italian EM wool) dried up the next stop seems to have been that rotten fuzzy brownish stuff (Autumn 44-May 45)

                            Best, John
