Lady brought one into the store today

An older lady I know brought some insignia in today and this was in the display. Her husband served in the 80th Infantry Division and supposedly got this off of an SS soldier's shirt. I know nothing about insignia so I thought I would post it. It is very detailed and made of what looks like sterling silver. What is insignia like this worth if real? and if SS?

At a rough estimate (given the strong £........ ) it's worth around $1000 USD. Great item.

            Ss

            I finally got it!!!
The son came into the pharmacy today and told me that he was willing to sell it to me. He said his dad was actually a sharpshooter in the 80th Infantry and took this off of an officer he killed. He said his dad waited for a long time to get the shot, and when he did, pandemonium broke out. He said the other SS soldiers were running around like their heads were cut off. And I know, don't believe the story, just the actual relic. I told the son it was too bad his dad didn't get more relics, but his dad had said the "stuff was too damn heavy to be lugging around all war!!!" This is only my second SS item as I used to have a DD SS helmet and traded it like a total moron!!!

Its a cool piece, and the story may well be true. Even if it isnt, it is always more interesting to be able to associate a story told by a vet to a piece.

                              Robb ; I too can't fathom $1k for a damn sleeve eagle...truly warped !.
I had two sleeve eagles when I was 16...traded them off both for a decent matched gew98 back then Of course I still have the rifle...it suits me better than those cloth items ever would.
