    Bullion Sleeve Eagle - Thoughts?

I have been avoiding bullion eagles, because the fakes are so good. However, I recently ran across this eagle, which is the closest thing to this well-known original underlay I have ever seen. Is this an original bird, or just a fake which was based on the same original eagle/underlay?

The style is credible, where did you get the unterlagen?

I don't actually "have" either the eagle or the unterlagen.

The photo of the eagle came from the current owner and I used an image of the eagle unterlagen I had stored on my computer to make a digital overlay, which I placed over the photo of the eagle to evaluate it. It is a bit of virtual reality.

Hard to say, but I wouldnt invest any heavy money on the shown eagle without very solid provenance. Its not a pattern that is very common to find.

          unterlagen

If the unterlagen is genuine (and why shouldn't be?) than the eagle lookes very very promising, I doubt it very much that the Pakistani fakers use period unterlagen!!! Indeed a neat comparison! Thanks for sharing this theory! Nick

            Felix,

I agree that it is not a common pattern, but the unterlagen (which I believe is well documented as original) matches it exactly. That does not absolutely mean that this bird is original, but it does maen that the pattern supports the possibility of originality, rather than contradict it as you suggest.

Matches exactly? Not in my opinion. It resembles the unterlagen though. I stand by my opinion that I would not invest much money to it my self without any good provenance, or a very careful hands on inspection. And I dont suggest that its fake, but rather that its not a common pattern and it should be treated afterwards.

The originals I have seen in this kind of pattern looks a bit different as well.
