Help with info on combat police uniform

Apart form colecting, I also build 1/6 scale models figures, and I am tring to make a figure of a combat police (4th SS division) in Russia 1942, engaged in antipartisan duty.

I have encountered a color picture of the 4th SS police divsion (a machine gun team that has standard SS eagles on their field tunics Heer collar patches, the police decals on helmets (that is the police eagle in the left, national party shield on the right) and dark collar.

The question is how would a tunic of this unit have looked like in 1942?

Would it be the M40 perhaps with field gray collar, retaining the Heer colar patches standard SS eagle? or would it be with the police eagle?

Did they alway wear the heer collar patches or did they use SS ones.

Please if someone could help with a photo of a tunic or a war time picture I would grately pareciate it

    Jaime,

I am familiar with the photograph you mention. It is shown on page 56 of "Die guten Glaubens waren" in color. I think this is a good rendition of what the 4th SS-Polizei Division would have worn in 1942. You could correctly base your model on this photograph. I would caution you that the Police Division was more of a front line combat unit than an anti-partisan unit at this time though. Much of the anti-partisan fighting was done by the Ordnungspolizei of the Polizei-Regiments dressed in standard Police kit.

Having said that, the SS-Polizei Division wore a mix of police and W-SS insignia (by design) as shown in the photo. Steel Polizei helmets in police green or field grey. Polizei (not Heer) collar tabs with mouse grey liltzen and green highlights. W-SS shoulder boards according to rank. W-SS style collar tresse for NCOs and W-SS sleeve patches for Pvt. 1st Class and Cpl. W-SS sleeve eagles. The collar could be dark or the same color as the tunic during this time period but it would have Police collar tabs and not the W-SS collar tabs that were worn later. The 4th changed over to all W-SS insignia during the course of the war, but this photo would show the proper kit in 1942.

    Good luck with your project.
