My first thought when I saw it was that it is fake....I hope I´m wrong But I don´t like the look of it

Definitely a totally different one than I've ever seen. Looks more like it belongs on some sort of African totem pole instead of a collar.

Dear sscrooge, The skull looks alright to me is it made of aluminium if it is it whould be from about 1935 or earlier to about 1943 when they made these in the so called kreigsmetall. also it whould be a collar skull from the black panzer jacket. also various german army cavarly regiments had this type of badge for example there is a much larger version in this style i have seen in a photo of about 1914 worn on a busby of an officer of the deaths head hussars. hope this helps. regards fusilier. p.s. also the various cavalry regiments in the german army 1933-1945 used similar badges to this one.

hi and thanks for the replys i have seen it for sale and dont know what metal it is but it does look alluminium to me but its just the weird looking smile thats thrown me as its totally different from my panzer skulls or any i have seen, thanks again dave

That particular badge is a cast fake of a known original style.

It (and others identical to it) have been regular stars of eBay for about the last 2 years.
