The littlest Untersturmfuhrer! Notice the Old Fighter Chevron and also note the cap adler. Anyone know what type of adler that is? The wings appear to be squared off and the swaz looks like it was blackened in.
        Best regards,

        Tony

          Nice

          Absolutely superb!

I wonder if he is still alive. Old photos like that always make the hair on the back of my neck (which is unfortunately copious, blame my Dad) stand up.

          Thanks

I assume that everybody understands that the child in the SS uniform is an invention of his parents, the father most likely. He probably copied his own uniform into a small size to show off his son and his own dedication to the cause.

When an enthusiastic aunt was visiting, I was made as a 3-year old into a partial SA man with accessories apparently made for children at the time (see picture below).

The second uniform is real for a young member of the Volkssturm. This militia-type organization did not have any official uniform other than the armband. The young man combined Hitler Youth components with SS insignia to make up his own important-looking uniform.

I remember doing the same in the Volkssturm combining my own HJ uniform pieces with Wehrmacht parts I had from my father. I made sure, though, that I would be abe to remove all HJ components quickly before being captured by the Russians. Fortunately, I did not face that situation at the end.

d-riemer, yes I think everyone knows that :-)

the second photo yes I would say a member of the "HJ" in the service of the Volkssturm

                      cheers,

                          Hi All,

I just wanted to say thanks for the pic of the HJ in SS/Volksturm uniform. It is one of the best original views of the SS tropical uniform and cap I have ever seen.

                              Bruce,

Its actually the other way around, the HJ youngster is wearing an ss tropical tunic with ss eagle and ss tropical cap with ss insignia and has added his HJ shoulder straps and the volksturm arm band to the uniform , with of course a HJ belt buckle,

                              cheers,
                              Gary
