I need to know the outcome...Was the SS Visor that caused "such a stir" real or fake? Has this matter come to a conclusion?

Collecting by consensus is not always a reliable method of determining authenticity...but it does have an impact on marketability.

That said, as opinions became polarized it became apparent that the majority felt it was a fake while the opposing view was that there was enough reason to withold judgement for a hands-on inspection.

At least that is what I got out of it.

As I understand it, in the end, it was not the veracity of the cap itself but rather the mudslinging about the supposed collusion of its sale that has resulted, I fear, in the resignation from this forum of two of our most senior members, Dr. Abenheim and Bob Coleman. This is a travesty, embarrassing in every way. I implore the guilty parties (you know who you are) to offer a full apology in this space in the hope we might entice them back. That such a topic should have degenerated to this sort of raw, speculative nonsense is, I am sure, of concern to all members. Please let your feelings be known!

I spoke to Donald not long after the thread started and I think,in my own opinion he is done with forums. I hope he changes his mind as I have great respect for him and will miss his posts.

I will also miss Bob Coleman who also had a common sense wisdom that turned my thinking around about many issues.He was a true contributor and shared much with us all here. Polite and gentle and very patient.

Bob and Donald brought a unique perspective to these pages with their views on the various SS items posted. I have seen few others do the same and be willing to share their knowledge in such detail.

Their leaving is to the detriment of the collectors here.

While I also regret the loss of the above-named individuals, the OP was asking about the cap specifically and not the individual personalities involved. Evidently we cannot separate the artifact from the collector without covering old feuds? I fear this thread is again veering off course and may end up like the previous threads.

Yes sad,sad that the previous ownership found it necessary to skirt the issue.(IMO). Legitiment questions, no answers. This is a case of what wasn't said.Prehaps one of the four who sanctified this piece can share their thoughts? Cheers Steve
