    White Alg tunic

Anyone seen this one? Any thoughts? Sure is a lot of name dropping for an Ebay auction. Sure seem to have a few problems too. I am pretty sure if authentic this piece would go pretty quick in the collectors market and would not need Ebay.

I requested pictures and never received any. Due to the name dropping, I talked to two of those who had "authenticated" the piece. Neither did so and both expressed some concerns, one more than the other. Without a written appraisal, the "authentications" are just so much blah blah.

The Ehrenwinkel looks odd. Colleague Coleman owns authentic regalia of this type, all of it of exceptional quality and rarity. Something is very peculiar here. If you look in the Kleiderkasse SS list of textiles, this kind of wool did not exist, either...two kinds of white fabric were on offer, the types of which I shall leave unsaid here for security reasons. In fact, the Kleiderkasse seems only to have sold fabric by the meter, no pre a porter materiel, save for caps, gloves, suspenders, shirts and the various accesoires of the master race. The VA SS price list had finished garments, but not the more elegant alternative. However, this kind of cashmere wool war nicht mit von der Partie. A kind of cashmere like black wool was on offer for the Gesellschaftsanzug and it was also used in black peaked caps...

Another tailor could have used a white wool of this type, but German summer fabrics were light weight then, as now. Look at Peek & Cloppenburg....

But the Schneidermeister has already figured this detail out with great skill. The patterns exist or are reverse engineered (tailored) from a black tunic--the results are legion nowadays. Colleague Nick's point is germane. When the stellar pieces come to market, they usually do so sub rosa and are snapped up by the leading lights, especially if this piece were indeed vetted by certain of the leading figures here. I know this statement will irritate some, but it is no less true. A well made fake Totenkopf officer ensemble came to light in the Western US and it was a Schneidermeister special, complete with a putative name tag to a man who was never in the SSTV. Es stinkt.

I think if I were one of the individuals named as authenticators, I would be a bit more than mad. Interesting mix of names also. Aren’t those the same names that TR depot used to drop on their site with the exception of Shea? Connection?

                    Achtung, Achtung....

I have a note before me from one of my most treasured and respected correspondents, and one of the names wrongly and maliciously listed in this E bay farce of fraudulent SSVT material. He assures me that he has never vetted this white elephant of a textile. Buyer beware! Surely the manner in which this seller has dragooned the good names of these people calls out for some legal remedy, does it not? Shame, shame.... I suppose it is one thing to sell one's material (I mean, who can stop it?) , but it is quite another to besudlen the good names of the leading figures in our field. I would also note, that, based on these images, the lapels of this piece (do look closely...) as well as the dagger Gehaenge put me in mind of the magical products of the Schneidermeister. Pfui.

I sent this thread URL off to another one of the people mentioned and he said he's never seen this tunic before. I wonder if it was the same person that Don just contacted? I told him that I would be pissed if somebody used my name like that. And also notice it's one of those PRIVATE auctions so you cannot tell who is bidding on it.

The person---whose name is known to all-- actually wrote to me once he saw my doubts in lights here. In any case, as long as I have collected this stuff (about four decades...) the mischief knows no end. Macht euren Dreck alleine, is what the king of Saxony said in 1918. I think he got it right. I cannot prevent the sale of junk, but I do think the purveyors cross a very real boundary of cussedness when they sully the names of authorities here in such a world-wide venue as the Mountain View, CA eletronic, globalized bazaar of pez containers. The fiends....if I am in error about all of this, I shall eat my hat, for I have more than one.... viel Sammerlglueck.

I also have received an email from one of the four individuals mentioned in the sale of this item. He has explicitly told me that he has never examined this item. This, along with the testimony of two of the other authorities mentioned, tells me that this tunic should be avoided with the most extreme measures.

of further note in this mad, mad world....

Colleague Coleman is a man of great authority in such matters. I owned a white tunic for a medical officer in the LAH in the early-1970s. It was made from one of the authorized textiles on offer from the SS Kleiderkasse, in fact---I only know said fact some thirty three or so years later. It was a knock off of an army white tunic, actually. I wish I still had it, like so much else of my very lost youth. It came with a nice silk field grey peaked cap with a grey inside, nylon piping and an ersatz sweat band. I sold the tunic to a figure known to Bob Hritz, the late-Heinz von Hungen, who was an old collector chum of mine and had a very impressive collection that included much SS material of note. This white tunic bore no resemblence to this odd offering in ebay. The cap I kept for awhile longer and then sold it to a major so. California collection in about 1975... Where is it now?
