      Hello!

"Did the blue eyes idiology play a role in the recruitment to the FG ?"

No, I have never heard that. The people I knew, and who served, did not have blue eyes.
In the first period, most FG-members if not all came from the Rikshird. FG is actually a branch of the Hird. Later, several frontfighters were drafted into FG, mostly as officers or NCOs.

Almost 600 men served in FG during the war! The consigment and period of service was for one year.

That is interesting. Which written sources are you refering to?
Let me know, it would be useful for me.

          This was stated:

          1945 Trial against VQ, p. 208, 209. <?xml:namespace prefix = o ns = "urn:schemas-microsoft-com:office:office" /><o></o>
          <o></o>
          Witness: Sophus Kahrs, age 27.<o></o>
          <o></o>
Lawyer/prosecutor (L): Have you been the commander of the so-called “F******248;rergarde”?<o></o>
          Kahrs (K): Yes!<o></o>
          L: From when?<o></o>
          K: February this year.<o></o>
L: How many men were totally in FG?<o></o>
          K: About 250.<o></o>
L: What was the task of FG?<o></o>
K: It was one “Parade unit” (Honn******248;ravdeling) and one guard unit<o></o>
          L: What kind of guard?<o></o>
          K: Ordinary guard duty<o></o>
L: So it was not used as a police force?<o></o>
K: No, not during my time, and I do not believe earlier either.<o></o>
          <o></o>
          (..)<o></o>
          <o></o>
L: What about the guard unit at Gimle?<o></o>
          K: It was a ordinary police company<o></o>
L: Why was the FG there?<o></o>
          K: To reinforce this unit.<o></o>
L: Was the FG not VQs private guard? Were they so unreliable that you had to use ordinary police too?<o></o>
K: It was not strong enough<o></o>
L: How come, that a 250 man strong unit, with the cost of 4-5 million kroner was not “strong enough”?<o></o>
K: It was not responsible for guarding VQ.<o></o>
L: How many men were used as guards at the Royal Castle?<o></o>
          K: About 30.<o></o>
L: Then there are 220 left. Were they not strong enough to secure Gimle?<o></o>
K: One can not keep men on duty 24 hours. They have to rest.<o></o>
          L: Was the FG armed?<o></o>
          K: Yes, it was armed<o></o>
L: Who decided that the FG was to be formed in the first place?<o></o>
K: It already excisted when I took over. I do not know.<o></o>

L: Have you been the commander of the so-called “F******248;rergarden”?<o></o>
          C: Yes.<o></o>
          L: What time?<o></o>
          C: from 20th April 1942 until 1st April 1944.<o></o>
L: How many men were in this unit then?<o></o>
C: Quite varying. From 50-60 men to 100.<o></o>
L: What was the task of the FG?<o></o>
C: Guard and parade duties. Guarding the castle.<o></o>
L: Nothing more than the castle?<o></o>
          C: Not as a guard duty<o></o>
          L: You were armed?<o></o>
C: Originally not. The only weapon were batons. Not until 24th September 1942 did we receive 80 old Krag-J******248;rgensen rifles. The FG was 80 man strong in September.<o></o>
L: Who took the initiative to form the FG, and give it weapons?<o></o>
C: I do not know. I must add that we did not get ammunition until december 1942.<o></o>
L: So you got only rifles, not ammunition? Was it the Germans who refused to supply ammunition?<o></o>
          C: Yes<o></o>
L: But then you got supplied?<o></o>
C: We got a little ammo, but not enough to exercise.<o></o>
L: And you were still only a guard formation? Never acting as police?<o></o>
          C: No!<o></o>
VQ: The FG was to act as a police reserve unit too.<o></o>
L: Who formed the FG? You?<o></o>
          VQ: I can not remember.<o></o>
L: Was the FG to act as a parade unit?<o></o>
VQ: One could not say that.<o></o>
          L: The commander said so!<o></o>
VQ: He has not said much. The FG was not a parade unit.<o></o>
          <o></o>
          (..)<o></o>
          <o></o>
Note: from April 44-February 45 the "F******248;rergarde" was commanded by Sveitf******248;rer Sverre Henschien.<o></o>

          <o></o>

This was told to me by a collector who have spoken with some officers who served in the FG.
If I understand correct from the interview you have posted, the same thing is answered from those soldiers. there where between 100-150 men in active service in each period. One period was 12 months, from the interview I presume that some officers/soldiers sign up again after the first 12 months for 12 new months. But there would been new guys entering the new period as well. From 1942 to 1945 it was close to 600 men who had done or did duty in the FG I have been told.

              Hello!
Maybe, maybe not. I have no other sources than those stated. As for the Førergarde badge, I have never seen a higher membershipnumber than app. 340. A former officer told me that the badges did not start with number "1", but "100". Then again, I am not sure if that is correct.

A distant relative of mine served from feb 44 and 6 months after that. He did of course never tell how many they were.

The "interwievs" I posted are interrogations from VQs trial.

Bjørn: How many do you think it was, based upon what you know or think?
Strange that no one have asked Østring, but again seen in the report you posted the amount told by the commanders various from 50-250 men. So I guess that the amount would change depends on which on you ask.

distant relative of mine served from feb 44 and 6 months after that. What does this mean? That He served until Aug 44? I cant follow the lead in this!

                  Hello Carl!
Honestly I do not really know how many who served totally. Østring has inded been asked a few times; he was the one who informed (a few years ago) that membership did not start with "1", but "100".

The membership badges could be an indication, but only very few of these seem to be around.

The only figures I have hail from the Quisling trials.

Yes, my relative did serve from February 44 until the end of August 44 when he briefly returned home before taking another position.
