Hello Sergey, could I please ask why you keep posting SS Shoulder boards Do you really not know if these are right or wrong or do we need to go over old ground which has already been covered in previous threads about what is good and what is bad. If these shoulder boards are wrong then I would like to know the specific points that make them bad.

        Always trying to learn, Chris

Chris, I don't have a big experince with SS insignia, this is a reason why I need opinions on these shoulder boards. I started this thread because compared them with the pair of 100% original shoulder boards from my collection.

I own a pair of same identical boards..mint...from same dealer..and in different piping..I believe the hbt material is good..however..I cant say 100 percent the shoulders are good (or bad) but I have strong doubts leaning in the Not good. The wool smells brand new..I know we all smell this stuff..having handled NEW wool..any new wool has a certain newness smell to it...that is hard to describe..this wool feels..looks.smells..NEW..just my thoughts.

The point you make about the new wool smell is a good one. I come from a country which specialises in wool. A real test of man-hood here in N.Z. is having to cut it off the sheeps back. We have a whole range of products called wool softners. You spray these on old soiled wool garments, soak over-night, wash carefully & correctly, your wool garments come out looking, smelling and feeling brand new. Is it possible these shoulder boards have been washed ? It is not my intention to try and rationalise a reproduction, I just want to make sure we have looked at all possibilities. As I have stated I am trying to learn how you tell good from bad

              With respect, Chris

Im sure there are commercial cleaning agents (like woolite only more sophisticated) which will clean wool and leave them looking and smelling "fresh". This is different however..in my opinion..for the smell of wool..or ANY cloth for that matter..that was manufactured today vs 60+ years ago. New wool and material has a distinct smell to it...hence the term.."virgin" wool . (although I know this means non reworked wool)

You know what, if the boards are no good..... and I will go by what Gary says his experience with them goes beyond the 1990s....people can believe in whatever they wish,Tinker Bell, etc. Why is it when an item is posted from certain dealers suddenly we hear the word lawsuit come up? An opinion is and opinion period and the potential buyer has every right to seek guidence and if a dealer wants to take legal action for this then he needs to quit the business because he has dreams of selling only to fools who never ask or think or question his items.Cmon now...

Well put John. One thing thing I"ve noticed in my life..and legal practice..is the frequency at which people scream "I'll sue". People often dont realize that suing someone in a civil court takes a lot of MONEY..not that that is always a good thing..but you need to find an attorney who will take the case on a non contigency basis..and it has to be worth his time and effort. Then..you have a whole host of jurisdictional issues.that is..where did the harm take place? In Sweden.? in California? in Russia? What court would hear it? Typically cases are heard in the jurisdiction where the cause of action occurred..or where the parties reside. Cyberland is a whole different bag and very complex. The recent "lawsuit" filed by the family of Natalie Holloway is a perfect example. The dutch teenager was "served" in New York..yet the alleged crime didntake place their..neither party lives their..not has substantial ties to New York..nor has a contuining presence there...its a fantasy..the New York courts will likely throw out the lawsuit as they lack the Jurisdiction to hear the case. Anyway.I wholeheartedly agree. This entire forum is BASED upon opinions largely based upon PHOTOS which we seek opinions. It would be crazy to believe we all start threatening suing each other over our opinions. The fact that a dealer is involved is in my opinion no different. They ARE the individuals selling the good for financial gain.or was anyone under the impression it was just done out of the kindness of their hearts?

Something else to think about. Seven years ago I started posting on forums and I saw many of the newer collectors buying thier first big ticket items and asking for opinions. Many got positive opinions based on the expectations of honesty on the part of the dealer..we expected that the dealers were honest and thus we were willing to bless items as original that werent blatant fakes.

After learning many things about what this hobby has become I am reluctant anymore to share a complete positive opinion about anything without a hands on inspection and even then if an item comes from a certain place I look at it with heavy scrutiny and at best regard it as a restored item.

What I see now is many newer collectors after that 7 years are now sharing expertise and forming expert opinion based on items they bought from dealers who arose in the new dawn of the modern fake and the restored uniform. There are people like myself who cant remember seeing so many SS M43 tunics badged and offered in near mint condition. I urge people to view everything with the highest amout of healthy skepticism and to listen to the insignia pros who were around before the mid 80s and busy collecting.
