Officer arm eagle - Comments please

Hi,

A friend of mine would like some comment on this eagle. Sorry for the quality of the picture, but it was the best one. Since this is not something I am familiar with I hope that you could comment on the eagle.

This exact one's cropped up before. Same sleeve,same stitching,same everything. You'll have to wait for John Pic. to give you a definative yes or no on it though. Looks good to me though (for what I know !).

I am still up in the air on these, no known period examples have emerged "out of the woods" or from Vet buys over the years. At least over 50 tunics out of Europe surfaced with them in the past 8 years. Yet not one was ever found in the US in old collections from before the 1990s. If you like the tunic and its not expensive then that might weigh in on your decision, Personally I think these are one version of two types of reproductions made in Austria by Carl Sieder, but thats just my opinion.

I should add this strange phenomenon. After running a couple of threads on these on different forums,dealers suddenly stopped offering tunics with eagles of this type or the other on them. So I assume they respected my opinions but I will never know because none of them except one entered the debates. None of the big cloth experts either entered an opinion in any of the debates which is really strange to me as well since at the time they were very busy posting thier opinions on various things.Some entered thier collections as examples but none gave direct opinion on these except Jim Toncar whose opinions are highly valued in this field by all who know SS cloth. There are currently two more tunics recently placed on a website for sale with these on them.

I regard as fake until prooven otherwise. Thats really how you have to value SS cloth today.

On the other hand one of these eagles is sewn on to a tunic comming from a theater in Norway and was showed on the GD forum. It came with a couple of other SS tunics which seemed to be authentic if I remember correct. Thats the best link back in time I know about, but gives 0% provenance. And this kind of eagle is popular at some specific dealers sites at expensive/semi-expensive tunics which is a negative fact.

In one dealers inventory you can find officer tunics with this style of eagle. Same dealer have sold a couple of "loose" beautiful original officer eagles of which none were in the style as in the top picture. I bought a loose example of this questionable eagle on ebay 5 years ago.

Well, no one knows for sure, and it remains another mystery like the pink ss camo smock.

There is (of course) some discussion between the seller and potential buyer. Is it possible to post some pictures of these fake eagles for comparison?

Regarding a history on the jacket it is informed that it is obtained from a (Norwegian) vet family via a 3rd part. As far as I know there is no documentation available.

Yes that does appear to be the same found by a member of GDC called "Virrvar" he either found it in a Theater company surplus or a museum storage, I cant remember but it was not from a vets family. One tunic was a Der Fuhrer the other I forget but I kept pictures of the eagles.The thread has since disappeared from that forum unfortunately.Its not even stitched on correctly for a bullion eagle which were normally hand stitched
