This is the replacement cap for the 34style it never had a skull button, but it is the first I've seen with an rzm tag perhaps it was one of the first of the new style and the continued with the tag until regulation was changed to a stamp.

It looks like the books missed that picture I guess that is a lesson that you can't damn an item because it doesn't follow the textbook examples

These caps were (re)issued as late as 1944.They can be seen worn by very youthful members of SS Pz regt.1 and 12 prior to Normandy. They exhibit unique characteristics in of themselves considering the short time they were made. Cheers Steve

                  Hi Darryl,

Nice cap, I miss really miss it. Lorenz
if you fold down the outer flap you might see a small hole behind the skull. I have owned a few of both types. I will see if I have images of some of the hats I have owned and post them.<o =""></o>

Perhaps I am missing something here , does anyone else find the 5 digit code on the RZM tag troubling ? also has anyone a cap in this pattern that shows honest field wear ? I cannot say if this hat is real or not but I do know that it was never considered orginal in the 1970's ? just wondering ?

One more question " If this is a cap made in 1940, isn't it odd it has a RZM tag in it ? I personally have never seen anything RZM tagged like this in the war year 1940 ? again I am just wondering ?

                        Hi Jim and All,

I do not find the condition troubling because I have bought many, many mint items from vets. As for the 5 digit code I don’t know if that is a problem. The caps that I bought were indirectly from vets in different parts of the country PA, CA and KS.

Jim I know you are one of the top people in the SS collecting field so I do not dismiss what you say. I myself am somewhat of an expert in the Japanese sword collecting field. However; I am continually learning new things while in <st1:country-region><st1 ="">Japan</st1></st1:country-region> as new information is always being uncovered.<o ="">

Good question,I have heard that before but nothing ever conclusive about it.I have always found the rzm code system an enigma w/a lot of conjecture. Besides the ones posted,I have seen couple of others and only one showed use. That being said I am satisfied that the material and construction of the hat is period done.It wasnt until about 10yrs ago that I found period photo's of these caps being issued again in 1944.
                          Cheers Steve

Interesting that Lorenz's cap doesn't seem to have a stamp in the hersteller box. Steve's cap is a Clemens Wagner is it not?
