    SS Artillery Piped Visor

I posted this visor back in December of this year. Unfortunately the post turned into an insignia "good - bad" thread. I would like to re-post to get opinions on visor alone. Several pictures will be posted, should additional be needed, I will do my best to take as directed.

Here are some of comments from that post:
"I believe this is a high end Clemens Wagner cap; Clemens Wagner was a major contractor for black SS caps for all ranks. I do also believe that they made grey caps with this logo, as well. Finally, I also believe that Clemens Wagner Erstklassig logos are also widely employed on fakes, but if one is asute in one's empirical craft, then you can tell the difference between authentic and fake ones. I believe that cap distributors or little retail firms for uniforms also carried Wagner caps. Clemens Wagner, as Wilkins points out, was a major cap factory on an mechanized basis, but they also seem to have had a better brand of product, i.e. Extramuetzen of various qualities. This logo looks authentic to me. Postscriptum: notice the cursive Buchstaben 'CW' in the logo".--Donald Abenheim<!-- / message -->

Technically, it looks very good in my opinion. I'm a bit cautious on caps in which the lining extends all the way down to the lower edge- I like to be able to see the band stiffener to see if there are any "red flags", but that tack stitch looks like its loose enough for you to get a peek at the salient points. One specific thing I would examine is if the thread tacking the lining behind the ventilation perforations at the front of the sweatband show any signs of residue from the orange foam pad- if its on the surrounding areas, as I can see, i would expect it to have stuck to the thread too.

                        Cheers,
                        Arran.

I've also just noticed at least one of the chinstrap buttons is replaced...I think you'd really need to examine this cap in hand...

Is the black band velvet or badge cloth? Also, isn't the wool a little too greenish to be ss?

The cap cord looks east german.
