TK Rings

Gentlemen,
Sorry to start this thread but I was unable to locate a TK ring on a dealers website to find out pricing but the eternal question come about as I have never really paid much attention to TK rings untill now... what is the price range for a TK ring?? I am looking for one at the moment and have no preference for wear or style, the more worn the better so what sort of price should I be looking for?
As I said I apologise for such a stupid thread but I couldnt find the answer out for myself

Original Totenkopf Honor Rings are very expensive. There are all kinds of rings (most of them fantasies) with Totenkopfs on them. So I'd look for somebody selling them as reproductions or fantasy rings with an appropriate $10-25 price tag. I'd certainly stay away from any of these rings that are being offered as "genuine or authentic" and for hundreds of dollars, Euros or whatever currency you deal with. I'm assuming you just want one to wear around, not so much as a collectible - sounds like it in your request. Anyway, it that is the case the that is what I'd do. Good Luck. Bob

Prices range from $3000, for a worn one, to over $10,000 mint. Obviously those are ballpark figures since many factors can change it.

From my experience a worn ring that is really ugly cat have a asking price of 3000 or so. Something that will not hurt your eyes can cost about 5000-7000. Mint, boxed and examples with great provenance go up from there of course depending on condition.

a couple of more things to factor in that matter to some are,,,

Can the man be found on the SS service list?!

Some will pay more for an early style ring that is in very good condition..

Who the ring belonged to, infamous SS personality =$...,a combat man will bring more than a pencil pusher, ,,more high end awards can = more $..,etc.

Also, TK rings that are huge in size, such as a size 15 or 16 will of course,
bring much more than normal because they are extremely rare, plus they have more oak leaves because they are bigger.
The rank of the recipient, the awards that he held, and the SS division(s)
that he was in, can all have a big effect on a rings value.
Any "mint" or "high near mint" HR is worth at least $10,000.00,
so that is the starting point for a ring in super condition.
I have seen recently, highly worn rings, (with none of the special features
listed above), sell from anywhere between $2,500.00 and $4,000.00
Medium condition, will of course, bring a medium price,
(somewhere between $5,000.00 and $8,000.00).

While your ring would never be confused with an original, this basic design was a very highly sought after award presented by Himmler. Here's a photo of an original, mint conditioned ring with a very rare rope-rimmed issue box. It was issued to an officer in the Race and Settlemet Office who was arrested by allied CIC after the war. I've been offered well above the 10K mentioned here, but it's just not for sale.

Here are two VERY worn ones that I could be persuaded to part with.

The first one has copies of all the paperwork to the original recipient, SS-Sturmbannfuehrer Helmut Reichel who was with the Sipo/SD and got the ring on 20.4.39. As you can see, only traces of the TK remain. The runes etc. are worn out. Inscription is clear. Therewere a few Reichels in the SS (including an RK holder) but my research tied it down to Helmut Reichel. Briefly, his history was as follows: NSDAP 1929; SS 1930; jailed for 8 days during the Kampfzeit; rejoined SS in 1933; June 1934 - joined SD; April 1936 - SS-Untersturmfuehrer at SD-Hauptamt; Ring awarded 20.4.39; 1940 - RSHA; June 1942 - Security
Police in Kiev; April 1944 - Waffen-SS officer training at Arolsen; ended
war as Sturmbannfuehrer.

The second one is totally worn almost flat. It was presented on 20.4.38 to Wilhelm Lehsau who got the ring because he was a holder of the Golden Party Badge (joined SA and NSDAP in 1926). Again, I've copies of all his service history. He was last heard of with the SS cavalry in Poland in May 1941 - they served with the Einsatzgruppen in Russia a few months later. This ring is a huge size. It's the only surviving one I know of that was given to an enlisted man. Lehsau never made it to officer. He was the only 'Lehsau' in the entire SS. Briefly, Lehsau's service record was: Joined SA and NSDAP in 1926; SS 1931; Golden Party Badge Holder; served with 11/III/35th SS-Standarte (Kassel); farmer by trade; in May 1941 was serving as SS-Rottenfuehrer with SS Cavalry Veterinary (Horse Hospital) at Radom in Poland. SS Cavalry mainly staffed by farmers/country gents and served with the Einsatzgruppen in 1941-42. No record of Lehsau after 1942, but the ring was found on the banks of the River Isar in Munich in 1995.
