Anyone got any ideas on this ring? It came from a veterans family.

So, first of all, why is it a SS ring ?
I always wonder, because if it has a skull, 9 out off 10 people are relating to SS .., bizar prices as a result.
What's the story ?

As Jos said, it is difficult to say that this is an SS ring because the so-called 'Kantine Rings' were available for regular soldiers and other personnel as well.
They made these skull rings during the war but there were probably 100 different types and the silver content differs.

It’s not exclusively an ss ring , but a known variation ,
