    Hans Werner Binos info request

    Hi all,

I am trying to get some information on a pair of binoculars that I have. I have searched the net for any reference to Hans Werner but I haven't found anything which just seems odd to me.

Reading off the binos it reads:

    Hans Werner
    Serial No. B-707745

    Marine
    7x50
    375ftat1000yds
    Coated

I can send photos to anyone interested.

    Thanks for your time,

    Matt

I might be wrong but they sound like post war Japanese - it was common to use German sounding names ie Carl Wetzlar etc in order to convince unwary buyers. But, on saying that, most were decent enough binos and, in some circles, are collectable in their own right.

Have a look at the objective end (the big lenses) and see if there's any tiny numbers stamped on the frame - a"B" number can tell who the original maker was.

I had a look but there are no markings there. Post-war Japanese eh?

Sgt Bilko's correct - almost definitely 1950's-early 1970's Japanese made with a Germanic name. Although value is not high ($25-$50 USD) if in good condition the optics on many can be good which is why during this time period a plethora of Japanese manufacturers exporting inexpensive but optically good binoculars drove many of the established and famous European and North American makers out of business (F.ex. Ross, Barr & Stroud, Huet, Hartmann, Hertel & Reuss) or forced them to move production to Japan (f.ex. Bausch & Lomb).

That's pretty interesting and would explain why google turned up nothing. Thanks for the replies!
