Leitz 8x60 in action on a uboat

    https://www.google.com/imgres?imgurl...act=mrc&uact=8

I haven´t seen many of these in photo´s from WWII.

At the bottom there is another interesting photo from a uboat, where the front covers of a UDF can be seen. With the serial number.

I am not familiar with tumbler. They may move photo´s around.
So, here is the one with the numbered UDF

Kapitänleutnant Heinz Bielfeld, commander of U-703 during winter patrol in Northern Waters, February-March 1943.

When I look at a photo like this, I cannot help wondering. Did they ever think about what they were doing?
In the middle of the north atlantic, on a snow covered uboat, freezing, and basically out to kill as many as they could?
I mean, there must have been thrills, but during all those long watches, it must have been hard to keep up the motivation.

Great pictures Michael! I wouldn't want to do a long watch in the North Sea. I read of a Royal Navy lookout in WW2 who suffered eye strain during a voyage of long watches and was given three weeks off to rest his eyes.
