Mount for a 10x80 20 deg. but is it a NATO item ?

Does anyone know if this unit is Kriegsmarine or pstwar NATO issue ?

A german WWII 10x80 20 degree binocular will fit it.

To me, the hex screws indicate postwar production.
It is a direction finder instrument, or at least, the base of one.

      An 8x60 might also fit.
But they were in fact using german 10x80 binoculars.
But point taken. That suggest that it may be a postwar mount.

I have seen one like it, many years ago, put on top of a large bell like iron thing, 120 cm high. At that time I saw it as something from a ship.
It was for sale at a surplus auction, with a weight above 500 kilo. Sometimes you just cannot bear to buy things.

On 2nd thought, the top plate looks like an adaption. Perhaps the unit was not specified for any special binoculars. That would make sense.
But who has made it ? Somehow it doesn´t look german. French perhaps?

Can you post readible pictures of the plates on it please, that might help to identify its timeframe.

From design it reminds of the Peilapparat mit Zählwerk, bearing units, used by the Küstenartillerie units in Normay and Denmark, only it seems much bigger. The design looks like it could be German pre-1945, screws might have been replaced,

I am sorry, but I do not have photo´s of the plates.
Doing image magic with a photo editing tool, I can make out a post WWII danish marking.
But that only says "direction Finder" in danish: Pejleapparat.

I cannot see the model year clearly enough to read.
I do note that it has been engraved on a grinded off surface, like on other danish used german WWII instruments.

I looked through what drawings the danish national archives has on direction finder equipment, but it seems it is too new for the drawings to have been delivered for archiving.

I agree, it must have a function like the Peilapparat. My guess is, it can be operated in the dark, without emitting light. Probably also being at least splash proof. Waterproof is a different story.
I cannot see any level vials, which either means it is intended for ship use, or that they are present somewhere inside, with internal lighting.

The design is somewhat different from the peilapparat mit Zählwerk, like how the screws are seated deep in smooth rounded surfaces, unlike the protuding screw protections on the Peilgerät. But both designs could very well be WWII.
A replacement of the original screws could very well have taken place.

I will check it out with a friend. If the danish navy has used it, he may know what it is, and have info on the designation.

I can make an update of a sort.
The unit was used at coastal forts in Denmark, at least around 1960. It was operated by a crew of 2 + an NCO.
Other equipment for fire direction was at the time, 1950-1965, bought in Holland.
                I keep looking.

I have a scrap of info myself. The leader of the Stevnsfort Museum is not happy, read: Boiling mad, that no-one told him these things were being sold.
If he had known, he might have wrangled at least one for the museum. They were used at Stevnsfortet.
