    Leitz Export Binoculars...

Does anyone have any info on Leitz binoculars supplied to Germany's allies in WW2?

I know Zeiss supplied Rumanian Contract optics (and others) but I've heard nothing about Leitz.

Today I raked out a lightweight "Dienstglas style" Leitz Bidox number 351984 with 3 screws per plate, hinge washer retaining screws, uncoated optics and crackle body finish.

It may have been supplied to Bulgaria - it's painted green (it's been overhauled I assume by the near new condition) and marked with the "20" in a double square.

I know it's a long shot, given that the company's records seem long gone, but wondered anyway...

    E.Leitz Bidox 6x30

    Hi Sgt Bilko,
    an interesting find!
E.Leitz 6x30 product at the #351984 range was usually beh marked and the body was coated in a black gritty lacquer.

I have not seen E. Leitz Wetzlar binoculars amongst the usual foreign contracts (Finnish, Swedish and Rumanian WW2 contracts) These State contracts were made with Carl Zeiss Jena,Emil Busch AG,Hensoldt, and Spindler & Hoyer.
In passing I have a record of an E. Leitz Wetzlar Binux 8x30 with serial number 331713(this has the same body fnish as the beh 6x30 Dienstglas at that point in the serial range)
    I also have a record of a E.Leitz Wetzlar Bidox 6x30 #serial 493514 (black gritty lacquer body finish) .

Thanks for that Stew. would you belive that a Hensoldt Rumanian contract 6x30 has just popped up? First one I've seen although I do have a Hensoldt "Dienstglas style" with no Dienstglas marking which I'm told was for export. (but to whom?)

I also know that Leitz made a few special 7x50 "Dienstglas style" brass Marsepts for the Royal Navy just before WW2 but they're so scarce they must have been to trial rather than a big order.

Talking of Leitz Marsepts - check this one out - very rare binoculars engraved 'Kriegsausführung' (war version)

I doubt if any war marking were defaced with that serial number - but unusual

        A 8x30 from 1939

This model has no serial number which fits in the 1939 Leitz numbers, but
it could also be an export model. has reticle and case with filter in the lid.
If anybody knows for what these were intended, information is appreciated

The 20 in square marks binoculars that have been overhauled in Bulgarian military factory, in the postwar years, probably 60s and later. Cleaning, repainting, adjusting, often lens coating. Has been done to many kinds of binoculars.

Thanks Theodor - my Leitz isn't coated so maybe one of the early reworks?

                Old thread, I know.
I picked up a Leitz 8x30 like the one below, today.
                Lousy condition. 1939 No. 3778.

                Regarding Leitz Marsept 7x50.
A small batch was delivered to the danish navy as well. In 1938-39.

Exactly the same as my Binux.
Probably one of the best wide angle binoculars ever made.
Mine was bought in Panama City in the 50's (came with receipt).

Did the Binux stay the same throughout its production run?
Cant find any pics of it below serial No. 480000 ish. What date would that be?

It looks almost "Modern" in apperance.

                  They are fantastic binoculars.
