    My complete Dienstglas 6x30

    Hi.
Who know, from which year may be this binoculars? I think that 1943, but I'm not sure.

    Regards.

last days I have seen many those tan buincoluras which have no H/6400 markings and asking myself what is wrong with them. All army binoculras I have seen have such markings. are those without H/6400 markings postwar production ?? what would be your opinion guys

I have 50+ cag binoculars on file ranging from serial number 5865 through to 307545. Up to around serial number 130000, cag binoculars were marked H/6400 which I assume indicated that they had a graticule on the right hand lens. After around serial number 130000 most cag binoculars were not so marked. In summary, around 25 of the cag binoculars I have on file are marked with H/6400 and the other 25 have no such marking. It would appear that the H/6400 marking was simply discontinued at some stage during the war. I am not at all certain whether cag binoculars issued without the H/6400 marking were issued with or without a graticule. Perhaps Benutzer can chime in here. He certainly knows his stuff on 6 x 30s.

H/6400- designation clause compliance with the German military maps, but not at 100%

Hi Michael and All, I m new here.

I have a CAG binoculars but gratiticule on the LEFT hand lens...

The binocular bought on ebay and it came in a case british P37. I think it may be the spoils of war, but does not explain graticule on left lens .

              Can anyone explain?

              Thanks

It sounds like someone had unscrewed both eyepiece assemblies and taken them off possibly for cleaning. Then, they mistakenly put them back on in reverse order - the left one on the right side and the right one with the graticule on the left side.

                  Thanks very much Wpgbinocular

                  Where exactly lies the graticule?
Is needed unscrew the 3 small screws or just aluminum discs with 02 slots, on eyepiece?
It's hard to reverse the order?

                  (sorry my poor english)

If your 6X30 Dienstglas is like my cxn 6X30, then the graticule is in an aluminum tube fitted into the bottom of the eyepiece tube (the lower part of the eyepiece assembly that screws into the binocular housing). To access it you'll have to unscrew the whole eyepiece assembly (best done using a strap-wrench) turning it counterclockwise. Check first that there are no tiny screws at the edge of the binocular housing securing the ocular tube (I doubt there will be any but best to have a good look first).

I learned something today, I did what you said without difficulty , thanks again! .... The graticule tube is strongly attached to the eyepiece , and has an internal screw in the tube/housing, I preferred not to remove, I have no tool for this. I think this internal screw in graticule housing is to take it off from eypiece, or I can remove with just my fingers?

Now, I do not know the correct position of the graticule scale, I placed graticule on right hand eyepiece, vertical position, right corner of the visual field.
                      This is correct?

                        Horizontal or vertically?

I forgot to say, I'm in doubt because the graticule line is horizontal.

I heard that in Army binoculars, the graticules are positioned vertically, so, I positioned the graticule vertically, right corner, but does not seem right.

CAG Army binoculars could have horizontal graticule?

Dienstglas 6X30 graticules are positioned horizontally. I don't know if that small screw secures the graticule tube. It's certainly possible. There's no screw in mine but there were probably all sorts of minor variations in manufacture. The markings on the graticule should be sharply visible when the binocular is focused at infinity. Also, the graticule should be as clean as possible because even the smallest specks of debris or smudges on it will be seen in the field of view. I don't know originally when the binocular left the factory at what IPD the horizontal graticule was level to the view. I assume it should be at IPD 65.

Now I understand; ipd ... The ipd adjustment for this binoculars is approximately 55 mm... my wife can see well with them.

How is a piece of the collection, I will not try to adjust this again, the graticule looks very fragile.
Yesterday I bought another 6x30 (DDX) on ebay that may have to clean and adjust, but disassembly and cleaning of binoculars is not so simple if someone does not help. I got these settings because you helped me, I did not know where to start.

I thought buying this book: "Repairing & Adjusting Binoculars" , is a good book?

                            Thanks again!

Yes, it is an excellent introduction to binocular repair and I recommend it. It really helped me get started. However, it is only an introduction and hardly covers everything. I do not recommend trying to disassemble and clean your Dienstglas until you have had a lot of experience on less valuable and easier Porro I binoculars to repair. A good type of binocular to start on would be a circa 1950's - 60's Japanese 7X50 often available at thrift stores, flea markets or eBay for about $20. Read the book; buy an inexpensive Japanese binocular; take it completely apart, clean and reassemble it; then you'll have a good idea of what's involved in servicing binoculars.
