    Luft Flak Mantel

Just wanted to show off my unissued Luftwaffe greatcoat. It's in MINT condition with it's paper factory label in place. I do have a few questions.

    * why are there no slots or loops for shoulder boards?

    * according to Uniforms & Traditions of the Luftwaffe, in 1940 aluminum pebbled buttons were replaced by blue-grey painted pebbled buttons. My jacket was produced in 1942 ????

*also in book, in March of 1940 detachable shoulder straps by means of tongue and bridle were recommended.

Guess orders weren't always followed !

    Thanks!

The shoulders likely would have been opened up just prior to being issued

        Greatcoat.

Maybe the shoulders have no buttons in order to accept more size of Boards. For the buttons possibly a maker have still buttons in his warehouse and use it untill the stock was empty.

So you mean the coat was intentionally set up to accept both types of boards? Interesting conclusion.... a loop could be added or a slit cut in fabric to accept a board....

Hello, this was not mi idea, but why not. I am just saying about: for the manufacturer is more job to make a hole and to sewn a button for shoulder board who not ever have the same size. And a hole can fragilize the shoulder during transport.

I got the year wrong.... my jacket is marked LBA 39 !! So this is an early war coat with bright silver buttons !! Makes sense now !!
