    SSK90 question

    Hi!
    Can anyone show me how this rivet/connection should look like on this ssk90 helmet?
    Possible to restore?

    Hi there!

    Now I'll not be able to take a pic from the helmet I own, but on the photo on the right lowside of this link you can see the stud you're talking about. However is the same of the other I imagine is put on the other parts of the chinstrap:

      Hi K-J,

      Are you thinking that there is something wrong with the chinstrap connection/rivet? I had one of these a while ago, but can't remember exactly how the chinstrap was configured execpt that it had elements that were similar to the fallschirmjager helmets. Maybe somebody else out there has one of these in hand that they could compare with your helmet.

      My advice would be to NOT attempt any restoration until you're sure that the thing was post-war modified. Even then, it would probably be best just to leave it as is. It LOOKS OK.

      These are interesting and rare helmets! Congratulations on landing one. I'm kind of sorry I let mine go!

      How's about some photos of the rest of the piece?

        Excuse me Axion, but I cannot understand very well... May you take some pictures of the whole chinstrap? The stud you have photographed would keep also the other arm of the 'Y' strap. Seems to me that lack something... Maybe being wrong , but I'd like to be sure...

          Yours is missing the female part of the rivet. It looks just like the other snaps on the helmet.

            I do not yet own this one but thinking of buying it...
            Here is another shot.. Question is how much this decreases the value..?
            The rest of the helmet is in really good condition. Any opinions about prices?

              Hi, Axion!

              In the pic you've posted there's not the close-up I would like to see. The lack rivet of your helmet have to be the junction of the strap that coming from the backside, it does keep two straps. On your seems to me that there's only one strap...

              Maybe this pic could help...

              It decreases the value only if there's problem with the other strap (missing, cut, shortened). The lack of one rivet is not so important...

                  These are always overpriced. They are supposed to be rare, but they do show up a lot. I personally wouldn't pay more than $900 for a nice one.

                    You're right, Jutawad! They're not so rare and pop up from the market quite often. But nowadays I have not see any of those sell at that ammount. I got mine lots of time ago, and I haven't no more interested in ... but 900 usd seems to me low, seeing the price of lots of more available things.

                      I'll never forget the worldwide record for this helmet, sold by Hermann Historica combined with a LKpS 101, if I do no mistake I think it was 14.000 €...

                        And selled as Me262 pilot helmet!!!! As often happened ...
                        I ever ask to myself why somebody would trust in the use of this heavy helmet by the jet fighter.. Why they need it???

                          That is one hell of a story..
                          Boy that guy must be disappointed now.. This one goes for about 1500 use but still I am a little bit worried about the missing rivet.. Want my stuff complete and in original order..

                            Everything is ok Leo.
                            Now some of you will perhaps burst in laughter: the leather comb was supposed to be used to drag the pilot out of the Me 262..., well good luck for getting a wounded pilot out of a freshly crashed Me 262 (probably in flame) thanks to this "helmet with handle"...
