Well here is the "ENIGMA". An original, IMO, Luft Blue Assault Gun wrap. This in itself is enough to cause discussion, as many do not believe in their existence. Coupled with this, is the fact that it is also tailored in the W-SS cut. I have had several other advanced collectors inspect it, and they all believe it to be an original period manufactured wrap. The question is the purpose...
I originally got the tunic and a pair of luft m44 trousers from Germany. He stated his picker got it from a house clearing...So that is the story for whatever it is worth. There are no traces of insignia and the set appears that it could have been worn by POW, etc... in the post war period.
I have not been able to find any photographic evidence of the luft blue wool assault gun wrap, and no pictures of luft soldiers wearing W-SS cut tunics,(excluding camo items). It is also very difficult since many period photos are not in color...so judging whether a uniform is gray or blue or black is difficult.
Interesting to note, that it does have faint markings, and recently a W-SS StuG wrap that was up for sale had marking that were almost exact from what I can tell.(hard to tell with the fading)
All that have handled it agree that it is not a dyed piece. It is made of what I consider ww2 Italian blue airforce wool, and lined in the typical Italian Rayon material. So either made in Italy or out of Italian captured materials.
So for discussion sake, any theories out there. Is this a real issue piece Luft BLue StuG wrap, or is it something else? Possible W-SS that used the blue wool? Another organization, or....
