Normandy bringback weapon-but what is it?

Nice photo of it in use. There is even some open ammo in the lower left side of the photo.
I have no idea what its worth, but I would pay $400+ in a heartbeat for it, with that neat box.

I wouldn't mind having it either...

The ammo boxes alongside the device look like 9mm parabellum to me.

A bit too big the rounds, to be 9mm, if you see the proportions.

The calibre should be 14,5mm

I thought possibly a line throwing gun....too small for a whaling gun.
This should be a really rare item, may be worth ten times that....but if run through one of the big yearly gun auctions , who knows what it's value could yield....if someone had the rest it attached to and needed this part, you might be surprised....but with provenance that adds a premium also.
