          I thought possibly a line throwing gun....too small for a whaling gun.
          This should be a really rare item, may be worth ten times that....but if run through one of the big yearly gun auctions , who knows what it's value could yield....if someone had the rest it attached to and needed this part, you might be surprised....but with provenance that adds a premium also.
