    Peenemuende Pencil-sharpener???!

    friends -

here's a strange object that surfaced at a connecticut flea market last week.

it's a 5-inch replica of the "shorty" V-2 -- the German "Wasserfall" ground-to-air missile. its hollow, has a screw-off "nose-cone", with a hole at the top. when removed a pencil sharpener is exposed! so you insert pencil, twist away, and the shavings inside are tossed when you unscrew the nose cone. clever or what?

material is I guess base metal or alloy, chrome or nickel-plated. there are 2 markings: "GERMANY" on the pencil sharpener, and "51" engraved into a stamped circle on the outside.

were the brilliant and forward-looking peenemuende boys predicting the famous "AREA 51" at groom Lake???! but seriously, anyone seen this sort of thing, or guess if it's wartime (maybe a rocket worker's souvenir) or postwar?

seems if postwar, allies would think such a "cute" item, wasn't....
    thanks!
