    What's this shell

    Hi:
Had this awhile. Wondering what it is? The tip has a couple notches looks like it might unscrew? Marked 476 1. The butt is marked 37-85 187 9 17 . There is a flaming bomb symbol but the flame part looks rounded off at the top like the NBC peacock. Local WWI vet bringback was told. Deceased but got his name.
Is it dangerous? I don't need to keep it. Probably hard to get rid of... the Brazos river? Worth anything? Anyone want it? Thanks, John

If you are getting rid of it I will take it. I don't know what it is though. Perhaps a 37mm trench cannon shell?

You may have to come get it, I think it's forbidden to mail. Imagine getting on a plane with it...
Lets see what others say. Thanks, John

              Thanks all...
Is that some kind of detonator on the front tip? I guess it's loaded with explosives? Just don't drop it, huh? Very common? John

                Hello,

Yes, french 37mm. It is loaded with blackpowder. Really easy to get, it looks like every soldier bring one to put on his chimney.
