1st War Shell Case,ID needed please!

Here is a pic of the base of a shell case I picked up yesterday.

It's dated 1917,and marked SCHNEIDER,it sounds German,but is it?

The case measures 3 inches across the mouth.

hello Andy. 3 inches = 7.7cm may be your shell case is an 1st ww 77 german gun nearly the same as the 75 french but how 's the case length ? rgds

andy . this isn't a german case . schneider was a french ammo manufacturer during ww1 . the case size gives us two possibilities . 76.2 x 385R ( 3 x 15.1R inches) or 75 x 381R ( 29.5 x 15R inches ) . rgrds . bernard
