Hi Bill,
It looks like a standard British 18 pounder. It would be for a Quick Firing field piece.

Defenitely not an 18 Pdr.
This is seperatly loaded projectile, the 18 Pdr., being a Q.F. used fixed rounds.

@Bill: diameter, length ?

I had a similar fuze once, turned out to be belgian..
