Hello,
I realise that this may be a long shot, but here goes!
I have just obtained a German First war brass shell case, dated 1917,it measures 56cm/22 inches tall, and approx 8.8 cm across the mouth.
Could someone tell me what kind of shell and what calibre it is please?
As I understand, the measurement across the mouth of the case is the calibre, which would mean that it is 8.8 cm/88 mm,I know this calibre existed in ww2,but was it around in the first war?
Sorry for the lack of pictures, but my batteries are on charge!
All help appreciated!
Kind regards,
Andy
