KM white pith / sun helmet

    hello Sirs ,

I need your help regarding this sun helmet ; a friend which is trying to trade it with me assumes is a probably pre WWII model or an early WWII .

I am asking you if he's right and which kind of insignia were placed in front ( see holes ) .

If this isn't a military model nor a KM I ask the moderator to delete or move to the properly room

    thank you in advance

    Paolo

Serg is correct, it is not a KM issue helmet, however these were worn by the Kriegsmarine.

              I dont get it

You mean is not " official equipment " but unofficialy were used ; if this model were used can we imagine , considering present holes , which metal insignia have been used ? Is possible eagle and cockade ?
              Thank you

There's no "normal" German (or British?) insignia that would "match" the holes in this Pith helmet....but there are Italian metal hat emblems that would "line up" fairly well...based on the photos....(usually worn "with a Cockade", but not always...)

These commercial helmets made by MANY nations prewar could be purchased/found "all over the world".... and commercial/captured foreign models were very popular with "every side"..... trouble is proving thier provenance and originality....

As far as this Sun helmet goes...I'd guess some Italian front plate.... nothing else lines up with the holes....unless I'm forgetting something. (All KM eagle types, including the lg. KM front pith eagles, any Polizei/Army/or LW eagle variations...none line up!)..

I've seen many commercial British, Dutch, Indian, S. Africian, German? Sun/Pith helmets that undoubtedly had nothing to do with WW 2..... this one obviously had something on the front...

                  Thank you John ,

your answer regard german insignia is what we were looking for , at this point might be something military or maybe not ...

We are quite sure there was not an italian plate , shield , insignia because the guy which asked me to post this helmet is collecting piths since 25 yrs and I am sure he already considered some " domestic " solution ... I will suggest him a double check on our " fregi " .

Italian piths are a jungle ... that's why are so charming ... ALL officer's piths are unique pieces just because REI ( Regio Esercito Ialiano ) was not suppling Officers with sun helmets , once they landed in Africa ( Port Said , Alexandria ... ) they had to buy privately a " not military kaki one " mostly made in India , Far East or other British Empire nation , second step was add a bullioned hand made insignia ... those mix made every pith one of a kind .

Cockades were different in sizes and material ( from Officers and troops ) and used by most of our soldiers .

CCNN ( Camicie Nere , Black Shirts ) were supposed to add only a metal insignia ( a Fascio ) , Officers and High Ranking a bullioned patch but of course we had several variations ... I have a so called Aden pith helmet from a Console Generale in AOI ( General in East Africa ) with bullioned patch and a nice small officer's cockade .

                  thank you again ,

                  Paolo
