Tunic question - other opinions sought

I was fortunate to acquire a superb tunic recently. (It was shown on this forum a couple of years ago by a previous owner though not in great detail).

I noticed that something had once been pinned to the EKII ribbon in the buttonhole. I know of nothing other than an honour roll clasp that would likely be pinned to the ribbon; however although am I am far from being any expert on awards I have only seen a few & they had 4 pins.

Not any kind of big deal but just curious what (if any) other considerations might be forthcoming.

Thanks in advance for your time

Excellent tunic. I also saw this one myself. Congratulations.

Have you been able to identify the owner of the tunic?

      Thanks Dragon,
No, I have not found anything to connect this with any individual. The marking in the sleeve appears to have been done with pencil which has worn & smudged with only a couple of barely discernable letters that I have been unable to match. It may be a name or possibly something else. I don`t believe the records I have been able to find are exhaustive & the possibility of an honour roll clasp might help to narrow it down further?

I did contact Horst Breddow at the U-boat archive to inquire if there was a complete record of awardees but received a vague reply and a reprimand (We were not Roman`s!) for calling it a tunic. It would be great to find the individual but like I say not a big deal for me.

Any thought on the two puncture marks through the ribbon?

Here the markings - I`ve been looking at it for too long but perhaps another pair of eyes more expert will see something I don`t?

Also a couple more photo`s courtesy of Daniel.

last; if only my camera were this good but I seem to keep spending all my spare cash on an acute addiction I have.

            Hi Vaughan,

It might be hard to track down the owner but as it is not a problem for you then you will have alot of enjoyment from the jacket. ( I believe this is correct )

I do not know about the holes in the EK II ribbon and I would not like to speculate. I do hope someone else with more knowledge can help you.

            All the best

You should start from all NCOs awarded with DKiG. Than try to find those with machinist ranks.

That should at least make the list a bit shorter.

After that, maybe you'll find that those readable letters inside are really remains of the name.

Not saying you will get full result, but collecting is fun and right approach is the key.

Other way is go and exclude all which are impossible to be the original owners. List would be long, but again, let's have some fun.

An interesting tunic, I personally haven't seen a jacket with buttons at the lapels like this before? Quite a nice set-up. Good luck in your search to identify the jacket.

                Regards,
                JustinG

Thanks for your comments. The buttons should not be outside & over the lapel but rather under. This was also commented upon by Herr Breddow. These are not my photographs & it is now correctly displayed with those buttons no longer visible.

Outstanding tunic Exactly what´s missing here......

I saw that one myself and it had a great price. Unfortunately i wasn´t able to get that money in a short time without selling too much from my collection

I did a little photoshop and i would look for a guy who´s name starts with an "S"

I see what you mean, but turn it upside down and it could be a stammrollnr...

                      N ..77... S

or is the N start and S end just coincedence.

                        You could be right

But the "S" for seaman fits then not to the machinist here, the Stammrollennummer must then have a "T" in it

Gent`s, thank you for your input. This is the lateral thinking I was hoping for from those with some knowledge & understanding. This is my first foray in to kriegsmarine other than a couple of daggers & badges. It had occured to me that it may not necessarily be a name and had not considered looking at it the other way up.

                          Your time is much appreciated!
                          regards

I used to own this tunic, sold it off some years ago. N1131S was my best guess. I did some research, narrowed it down to 81 possible soldiers.

Not when he started as a enlisted sailor. I'll have another look on the computer in stead of this phone. I really think to see numbers (7's and a 2 or three) when the names starts with an S a crossreference with the 37 holders of the km honour roll clasp should be a short search. Don't think it's a name though.

But the other way around could be usefull, take the 37 reciepents, narrow down by rank. Try to fixteir st.r.no and you can exclude those...
