Heer vs KM buckles??

I tried posting this question in the buckles forum earlier today with no response, so I thought I might have better luck here.

OK, I know this will be giggled at as a beginner question, but for the life of me I can't tell the differences between a Heer EM buckle and a Kriegsmarine EM buckle!! Is it color? Or material?

Could someone please enlighten me?? Preferably with a side by side photo. Thanks, Bill

Basically the buckles are the same.

The KM buckle is often times gold in color..............

However, sometimes they are the same color, and the mark on the tab will signal a KM buckle...........

One member said that certain makers produce more KM/HJ buckles than Heer, can this be true, or did I misunderstand him??? I bought one that is in great shape which is MM CTD 1943, it was sold to me as a KM.
