    U-9 'thingy' - not a clue

Not a badge or cap badge. Appears made from plastic. Not pin but a raised post that appears intended as a kind of stand. Measures 49.6 x 15.04mm. No markings. Came in a grouping of stuff - all period.

    Anyone seen the like?

Evaluate the item, not the story and not the seller's reputation!

If you PM/contact me without the courtesy of using your first name, please don't be offended if I politely ignore you!

Would guess pre ww2, represents Otto Weddigen in the U9 famous for sinking three cruisers in one action

W.H.W. = Winter Hilft Werk......The German social welfare organizations sold all sorts of pins.....flowers, animals, clowns, birds, miniture military equipment, City Shields, Flags, ancient shields, weapons, etc. to raise money for the poor durning the Winter (actually year round). They were highly collected by the German populous. There are endless differant ones....most unappreciated by modern collectors (of course the Political & military oriented ones (w/swastikas, etc.) are exceptions to that rule!)
