That's about as poor a fake camo job I've seen. I'd stay away!

Replying from the Rotterdam to Hull ferry, just back from D-Day Anniversary. Superb. On tour with a bunch of veterans, great guys.

Instead of LOL, why not tell me why it's no good?

The reason I say this, is that this helmet has great provenance. My mate got it from the vet in 1971. It's only been in 2 peoples hands since the war! I have actually spoken to the Vets widow. Everything checks out.

No offence guys, but I'd like Willi or Perry's call on this one! I'll get better pics in the future.

Methinks that if one of the FJ top end collectors posted this, you'd be falling over yourselves in congratulating them!

After getting burned before, (and thanks to the guys in here I found out) I've waited nearly 2 years for the right helmet to come along. I know where this one has been since the end of the war.

So, instead of saying it's a duffer, tell me WHY it's a duffer. I've seen lids that looked more off than this one get standing ovations in here.

BTW, that colour scheme appears in the FJ book, Green Devils one, can't remember name!

          Willi??

            Lenny,

viewing your pictures I personally have no specific problems with that camo job, specially if you have solid provenance.
It is always better to see it in the flesh of course, but I'll have it.
The helmet is a typical late war piece with the steel slotted bolts and from what I can see it is a very nice one too.

Perhaps Willy or Matt can give you their opinion too.

Below is another example of a late war FJ helmet with a "crap" camo job too.
            "Crap" but original.

Lenny, A friend of mine owns a camo helmet very similar to that one. I think it is pictured in the Rober Kurtz book on German paratroopers published by Schiffer several years ago.

I will check it out later today.

It sure looks good to me Not because of the Vet story but because I have seen these colour paints (Burgundy etc) on original German helmets in the past possibly to match the jump smocks (Tan/Water etc). The helmet looks original also

In fact a buddy just picked up a similar camo direct from a Vet which was found in France,it is an Army helmet with the decal painted over.I think you got a good one, Glenn

I like you FJ helmet, but I'm no camo expert so I can't comment on it, just want to say that I like the looks and the liner.

BUt I believe you are right If Willy or Perry would have posted it, with" saying latest find" nobody would have given any negative feedback,

I prefer to keep my mouth shut till I know what i'm talking about, but if you really forced me to give an opinion I wouldn't bought it myself becaus eit is an camo I had never seen before,

                      But really a great find,

Do you have more stories to tell about this hemet

I didn't make a comment right off hand because the texture looked possibly original. In all fairness to the guys who didn't like the cammo, IMHO it looks like a birthday cake You have to understand that it's NOT always an easy task to make a good decision on a small screen. Colors do get distorted and sometimes a hands on inspection is best.

Lenny, calm down ,stop getting abusive .Why dont you tell us the whole story in the first place instead of trying to make us look like a bunch of dickheads . No wonder people hold back till us brave few give a reply .The paintwork still looks like it was done by a junior modeller.Rob

Let's not forget that the average soldier in the field was by no means an artist. What you had in most cases is a bunch of guys sitting around a fire grateful to be alive with a few cans of paint just slapping it on thier helmets. There were higher priorities such as eating, sleeping, sufficiant amounts of ammo and a clean and functional weapon.

                              Another question-mark.....

Why judge a helmet on it's camouflage or say crappy camouflage? I'm in the service and camouflage my helmet myself with all sorts of stuff depending on the surroundings, should I say my helmet is fake now too?

Even if someone's kids had finger painted it pink I would be very glad with a helmet like that one.
