                Hole in ID tag...

the half ID tag shows a clear hole puncture at the break. Looks like a grouping of personal items. Nice find!

Sometimes we might forget the horrors associated with our helmets and other collectibles. This brings it back into focus for me. Looking at my helmet shelf a little differently right now. Immeasurable respect is due the men and women of that era.

OK back to playing with my fun helmets!

Living the dream so darn cool. I tried magnet fishing some creeks before but never dug.

How did you clean it so nicely?

Fantastic finds Hummel. I think it would be quite thrilling to find and recover and study items from Stalingrad. Before anyone jumps on that, I would be seeking battlefield discarded equipment, not trying to find graves - and if I found one I would stop digging and report it.

I visited Volgograd way back in December of 2000. No time or connections to attempt to discover anything myself, but I did get my guide to help me find a shop selling some local finds so I could bring back mementos of my trip for my collection.
