I thought the DRK might have stood a chance, but agree that all are probably wrong, expecially the FJ. I just thought they were worth mentioning as they are published as originals.

I have never seen an original period image on a helmet, but maybe some day one will appear.

      Thanks,

      Jerry

I totally agree with other members about the scepticism on the helmets. All of those drawnings were done by the soldiers so it's really hard to understand if we are in fron tof an original example or not. In any case I would never buy an helmet like those cosnidering also the high prices that an afrikan camo could have.

          Walter, I'm with you...

Now - the one John H posted - inside the skirt.... I like that one.

I agree with you Tom! No warning bells rang when I saw the picture of the inside skirt (as opposed to how they rang when I saw those other helmets). In addition, it seems much more plausible to me that a veteran Landser would customize the inside skirt in this manner as opposed to doing so on the exterior of the helmet. Just my opinion.

These are extremely rare and often controversial; but originals do exist. I know of two owned by members of this forum that leave little doubt. Jonh's example would be a third.

              Cheers,

                  Any chance of seeing these?

Count me strongly with you Walter! All total junk!

The helmet I mentioned previously is beyond a one looker. It is breathtaking and a "Holy Grail" of DAK helmets. Do have an old print photo of it, nothing digital. But, the photos are not for me to post without permission. Will PM the owner the link and see if he wants to contribute here, many know him well.

One I thought stood a real good chance but was only able to get so close to it. Was on display at the 04 Max.

Wow, I have to admit that from the picture, that one looks killer.

Going to add my helmet to this group as well. Hopefully more information comes available on the subject. As originally reviewed, the opinion was believed to be post war paint. However, I still doubt the review. Just my opinion after research

This is one in my collection, I had this for many years.
The insignia is painted over the fine pink sand mix with paint camouflage, worn but you can still see the pals and swastika

I just sit here and wonder...Lets say my helmet is a good, clean..well seen single decal Luftwaffe helmet, no paint, fully intact liner...why would some dealer paint it with a yellow ish "mud color" ? And plaster a palm tree on the side of it? I can tell the paint is very old....Why take a chance ruining / painting a perfectly good...and desirable...and expensive....even in 1970's dollars helmet just to try to get 30% up? Maybe 50%. I mean...I nice M40 all intact...Just doesn't make any sense. Plus some helmet collectors love a clean paint that cant be authenitcated with camo??? If the camo and tree are fake...just don't get why someone would take the chance
