    M35 Luftwaffe DAK

    Hey guys,

What are your opinions on this helmet?

Can anyone make out the soldier's name or unit? The unit looks like maybe "I./Flakrgt." and then a few digits after that.

    Thanks,
    Jordan

Maybe part of the 19th Flak Div?

Repetitive scratches, odd wear, and lack of patina. I would be suspicious of that helmet.

I wouldn't say there is a lack of patina. Part of that is the seller's photography. But there are definitely a lot of scratches!

        Thanks for your comment!

I don't like the wear on this one at all. Looks very contrived.

Thanks for the comments, everyone. I will pass on it then. I appreciate the feedback.

Can anyone give a more detailed breakdown of what is wrong with it so that we can use this for future reference? Could the filter of the photography be part of this issue or is it just completely bad?

              Thanks again,
              Jordan

Like R.Bell says, repetitive scratches, like made with a stanley knife are a red light to start with ..

A great example of contrived wear on a fake camo job. Unlikely that the tri colour is original either. Bill

Thanks for the info. I need to stay away from helmets until I learn more.

Can you guys recommend the best books on helmets? Specifically, reference books that point out details between the real helmets and fakes?

You don't need a book. Just follow this forum

In this case it starts with the bad look of the camo paint , it's more experience than science. If you want to start learning about helmets start from the bottom up , camo's / SS are the most tricky because they are faked the most.
Reference books will always talk about the authentic helmets , comparisons with fakes are not really useful because there are many more fake decas than there are original decals so learning the key features of authentic helmets is most important.

Really bad camo, certainly doesn't pass the 5 second rule. As mentioned, study pictures of original camos in this Forum. Eventually, you will start developing an eye.
