What and who has determined that this pat is postwar/fake

hello,

I don't believe anybody has determined these as fake but there is a lot of contention in the hobby over these. Some believe they are fake and some believe that they are wartime but very late war. I have never seen a period photo of one in use or sewn on a tunic that I believe was war time done.

They are usually well made on a good base material.

the reason i asked is i got well over 100 of these in a large lot of items from the son of the vet that brought them back to the uk in 1947

I believe the one that is shown here first is a fake.

Andy what you are showing is 2 part finished badges with some detail missing (unfinished)

These Edelweiss are original for sure and that's why i bought some for my collection and my spares boxes ... !
This type on feldgrau came on the market in the 80's by hundreds and some immediately thought : 100's ? Fakes !

IMO those are legit. They did surface in a large number as stated above together with ones on dark green and other cloth insignia. Old factory stock...

I fainlty remember getting a mint late war overcoat with a Private Chevron and a Edelweiss patch on grey wool probably 20 or years ago. Cool thing was, there were more chevrons and gray GJ patches in the pocket.

No doubt in my mind that those are period.
