    Heer Shoulder Board Slip On

    Hello Guys,

Can anyone please shed some light on this red woolen stripe to be slipped onto a shoulder board? Like the history behind it, its usage, the meaning behind the colour, etc.

I did find some info saying it was used to denote the wearer's regiment or battalion. But haven't found exactly what. I've seen many colour stripes like: red woolen stripe, yellow cotton stripe, combined pink and yellow stripe, red soutache, golden twisted cord, and so on.

Thank you in advance, your help will be appreciated!

    Sub-Unit Designator

They are meant to represent a unit within a unit. An example could be the III battalion of an Infanterie Regiment. Another example could be of a smaller size unit such a battalion or Abteilung in which case it could represent a Kompanie.

Look at post 1342 in this thread.
