      Hi Sanya.

As far as I am concerned this is a nice original cupal summer bird in gold.

To the best of my knowledge there are 3 versions of this bird. The most common is the gold and silver version in cupal like yours. Hard to say from your pictures what its made of (could be brass if its heavier) but the oval plate mounted pin and catch are typical of cupal birds by this maker and there are normally small tell tale signs around the edges that ID the base metal (or laminate).

The other two versions of this bird are rarer: the first one being a fire gilded brass version with the hardware welded directly to the back of the eagle (without the oval plates) and the third one is a KM cloth mounted gold aluminum bird of the same design

      Regards

      JC

          Bonsoir Sanya,

All my birds are snoozing away, individually wrapped in the comfort of tupperware containers and difficult to access but, at 7,59g your bird is about the same weight as one of the few birds I have started documenting so far ( that I call "type 1" (picture 1 attached). For that variant the cupal version weighs 7,8 g and the brass/tombac version weighs in at 8,5 g so I still think your bird is probably a cupal specimen and the brass version (like the one shown at the top of my 2nd picture) would be heavier and have different hardware (no oval plates for the hinge & catch...)

IMO the bird you showed in your initial post has absolutely nothing to do with the 2 (nice) Maedicke 2nd pattern aluminum specimens you attached to your last post other than some similar features (eg breast feathering style). The maker that produced this bird did in fact produce an aluminum bird but its of the same identical design as the specimen you posted but it is mounted on KM cloth (I hope my friend Tim Curley reads this and posts his beautiful cloth mounted specimen)

No proof so far but I've heard (on more than a few occasions) that the bird we are discussing here is actually a Steinhauer & Luck (Lüdenscheid) product but I'm waiting for a catalog picture, sample board or other evidence to confirm this

          Salut

          JC

              No problem Sanya

And, last but not least Tim was kind enough to send me pictures of his cloth mounted aluminum gold eagle of the same design/maker as the cupal & tombac specimens discussed here. His aluminum version only weighs 5 grams
