    Model HBT jacket identify

    Hi guys,

Is this the M43 or the M42 type of jacket? The pointy flaps indicate M42 as I recall?

And is there any info out there on the maker Julius Tafdrup or Tafdrop?

Sorry for the bad quality photos. I had to make them in bad light.

    Thanks.

    Jac

I think that contract/issue HBT tunics were designated my model or pattern vice production year? This would mean that your tunic would be 2 nd model / pattern HBT tunic. The 1 st pattern HBT which looks like a M40 tunic was produced starting mid 1941. I had a 2nd model HBT dated 1944 so unlike wool combat tunics, using production year to designate types of HBT styles is not accurate. Just my two cents on this topic.

      Nice 2nd model HBT

        Thanks fellas!

Just made some better pictures. Is there any chance the insignia was (by hand) period applied?

        Regards,

        Jac

Found some faint markings also. Looks like I can just make out a big size and the model M42.

              Hi Glenn,

              Thanks for your reply .

The tread that was used looks period (and seems tot match the rest of the tunic). Could there be any chance the sewing of the insignia was done period? So far as I know of this was not uncommon.

Looking forward to more opinions (learning all the time)

              Regards,

              Jac

I'm with Glenn on this, the eagle looks like it was post war applied. Normally hbt tunics had machine sewn eagles... I can see faint cloth snags were someone removed the original eagle which was most likely machine sewn. Are the collar tabs also hand sewn? Normally late model hbt tunics had the collar tabs machine sewn completely around the circumference of the tab. Your tunic is a nice large size and was out of the Stettin depot 1942. Steve

                  Hi Steve,

Thanks for the information. Very usefull! I always like to research my stuff. Learn more about its history. Can you tell more about this depot Steve? And how can you tell this tunic came from this depot? Thanks,

                  Regards,

                  Jac
