at such an Ergänzungs-Einheit (Operational training Unit like the "Windhunden EuA") to prep the new 116 members for unit orientation and front line service preparedness.
Such staff personnel would have already earned such a badge while being released from the front (perhaps healing from a wound)
to help train replacements for the unit. That's what I am trying to say.

Interestingly a Bundeswehr unit, I can't recall which one, inherited this tradition badge post-war, and was certainly still using it as late as 1996, but has since been forced to relinquish it, and in it's place adopt a stylised red rose head.
Another recent attempt to eradicate any continuity of tradition between the Bundeswehr and Wehrmacht.
